POST CLINICAL CARE
The companionship of a doula in postoperative or postpartum time can create opportunities for the self and/or care circle to continue holding space, listening, and helping one another adjust to new household needs and collaborate in the emotional processing of your transition. The primary role of our post clinical care services is to provide emotional, physical, and spiritual education following experiences such as surgery, birth, miscarriage, or abortion. Drawing from evidence-based research and experience, post clinical care services are created to offer education surrounding common physical, emotional, and spiritual patterns in moments of transition such as surgery, pregnancy, spiritual transition, end-of-life care, and death.
Postoperative care is support for before and/or after surgery, including general, pediatric, or gender-affirming surgery. The needs of someone who has just undergone major surgery are specific, and postoperative doulas are there to provide a wide range of support.
Postoperative services may include pre-surgery planning, preparedness techniques, accompaniment to and from surgery, and daytime or overnight care. Your doula may also provide light meal preparation and light housekeeping. Services may also include support calls, recommendations about recovery supplies, resources, and support with making recommendations about creating a space that is favorable to surgery recovery.
Postpartum After-Birth Care
The arrival of a new baby in the community can be a time swirling with emotions for each person involved (yes, baby too!). Trying to find answers to questions in libraries and websites full of resources, when each person has a new opinion on the "right" way, can leave caretakers confused, overwhelmed, and cautious. Your postpartum doula can offer nonjudgemental support and evidence-based information.
Postpartum services include assistance with newborn care including diapering, bathing, comforting, feeding (including resources and information regarding lactation), and taking note of early hunger cues, as well as burping, changing diapers, and soothing baby back to sleep. Your doula may also provide light meal preparation and light housekeeping. The assistance of a doula may create space for you to recover and rest when you need to. Virtual services may include recommendations about recovery bags, support calls, and virtual home tours to make recommendations about creating a space that is favorable to recovery.
Postpartum Abortion Care
If you are making a decision to end your pregnancy, a doula's support may help. Your doula will meet with you to listen to your experiences. You will be treated with kindness and dignity. The assistance of a doula may create space for you to recover and rest when you need to.
Abortion support may include sharing evidence-based information & resources, emotional comfort & care tools, pain management techniques, spiritual guidance, emotional support, and referrals for cycle/period regulation. Your doula will also provide light meal preparation and light housekeeping. Virtual services may include recommendations about recovery care kits, support calls, and recommendations about creating a space that is favorable to healing and/or recovery.
